By taking a little extra care, your flowers can last longer and stay looking great. Most flowers in an arrangement or bouquet will last from 5 to 8 days, depending on the type of flowers. To keep your flowers looking as vibrant and as beautiful as the day you received them, just follow the tips below.

Loose flowers

- Keep the flowers cool until you can put them in water. If you have more shopping to do you can collect your flowers from Blooms just before you go home so that they don’t get damaged while you are in the high street crowds.

- Fill a clean deep vase with water and add the flower food that we have provided. Flower food is very important as it helps to preserve the freshness of your blooms. Follow the mixing instructions on the packet; it should not be mixed with any more or less water than stated. A clean vase is imperative as bacteria can kill your flowers prematurely.

- Cut the stems of the flowers removing as much as is required to fit your vase. You should cut the stems diagonally so that there is more surface area for the flowers to draw in water. You should also use a very sharp knife or scissors so that there is no risk of crushing the stems.

- Remove any leaves that are below water level. The leaves could promote the growth of bacteria making the flowers die. It will also begin to smell after a couple of days!

- Keep the water level topped up in your vase. You can mix new solution with the flower food and add that to the flowers.

- Keep your flowers somewhere cool. They should not be placed in direct sunlight or near any heating, such as a radiator or near air conditioning. They should also be kept away from televisions as they give off heat.

  Arrangements

- Keep the oasis (green floral foam) soaked with water containing flower food. This will help your flowers to last longer.

- If at all possible re cut the stems when you re soak the oasis. This will mean that the flowers get a proper drink.

- Keep the arrangement somewhere cool, just like loose flowers. Flowers tend to live longer in cool conditions. However don’t put your flowers in the fridge.
